JUDO

Judo is based on various traditional Japanese martial arts.  It is a full contact grappling sport where the aim is to off balance an opponent so that you can efficiently throw them to the ground with skill and control, and once grounded control them by pinning them to the ground.  Older children and adults are also taught how to gain their opponents' submission through applying arm locks or chokes.  Judo is an Olympic and Paralympic sport governed in this country by the British Judo Association (BJA).  Judo is suitable for children 5 years old and upwards, and adults up to any age.  Judo tournaments are held regularly throughout the year catering for different abilities in different weight divisions and age bands including veterans age categories, as well as having tournaments for visually impaired players, and adaptive judo pathway for players with different physical or cognitive needs.

Classes at Hingham Sports Hall are run by Wymondham Judo Club which is a BJA registered club with several experienced and fully qualified coaches.  The Hingham classes are usually lead by the clubs head coach and Hingham resident, John Ellis.  John is a 5th Dan black belt, a National C level referee, former GB squad member and international competitor and a BJA and UKCC Level 2 judo coach .

The Hingham judo classes take place on Monday evenings in the main sports hall:
• 6:00pm - 7:00pm children aged 5yrs to 13yrs old (cost £4.00)
• 7:15pm - 8:15pm children aged 14yrs+, and adults (cost £4.00)

Our classes are suitable for all abilities and we regularly take on new beginners, as well as having experienced black belts regularly training with us.  If you want to try judo then all you'll need to do is come along wearing loose fitting long sleeved and long legged sports clothing and join in - your first session is free!
